AI laziness, fish climbing trees, and a PSA for your butt
Small life hacks, big frustrations, and why some days just need a power off/on
Some weeks are full of deep, meaningful insights. This is not one of those weeks. Instead, I’ve been hyper-fixating on the little things, like how small annoyances pile up, how modern tools are making me slower instead of faster, how some trends (business names, for example) have officially run their course, and I have some very strong opinions on bathroom hygiene. Let’s get into it.
AI Makes Me Slower, and I’m Letting It Happen
Writing a quick email used to be so much easier... Now? Now I draft it, think hmm, let’s see what AI does with this, and then spend even more time tweaking its output because it still doesn’t quite get the tone right. It’s like outsourcing my thinking just enough that it feels easier, even though it takes longer. This is peak laziness and I'm starting to become way to reliant on this tool.
Getting Kids Out the Door Should Count as Strength Training
It’s like trying to teach a fish to climb a tree, except the tree is on fire, the ground is on fire, and hell, the dam water (see what i did there?) the fish came from is on fire, and the fish doesn’t care; it just blankley stares out of the side of its head while sorting pokemon cards. What makes it truly impossible is that the world refuses to adjust. The schedule remains the schedule. They still have to get to school on time (or god forbid they are truant). The appointment time remains the appointment time, and somehow, despite all odds, I still have to be places on time while managing these tiny creatures whose brains operate on an entirely different plane of existence.
A PSA: Get a Bidet. Just Do It.
That’s it. That’s the post…
The Weird Blackout Effect of Phone Calls While Driving
Ever take a call while driving and when you hang up you realize you have zero memory of actually driving there? It’s terrifying. Feels like I just lost 10 minutes of my life and somehow didn’t crash. I don't think the act of holding my phone to my head that is truly the issue of cell phones while driving; it's the act of holding a conversation on a phone (i can do it in person - sorry passengers). Brain people, please explain.
There’s Something to Learn from Every Interaction
Seriously, I don’t get people who dismiss a course or conversation because they “already know this.” Even if I’ve heard something before, there’s usually a new perspective or a reminder to get my shit together. Be open to learning from everything; even those mandatory HR compliance trainings that are are so 👏 damn 👏 bad 👏 (though I'd be concerned if you're learning A LOT from them).
Some Days, You Just Need to Call It a “Go Home Day”
I had a coworker once (shoutout to Craig who I'm pretty sure will never see this) who introduced me to 'go home days'. You know, those days where nothing works, everything you touch breaks, and you just need to step away before you make things worse? I feel this sometimes (sometimes REALLY HARD), the best solution isn’t to power through; step away and try to do a completely different task.
Ampersand Businesses
You know the ones: Finch & Feather, Oak & Iron, Moon & Tide. I heard someone call them ampersand businesses, and it’s perfect. They’ve officially hit peak trendiness, which means we’re probably due for a new wave of cliché business names soon. What will they be though?
A Hot Tip To Wrap Up: Don’t Add the Recipient Until You Send
Nothing kills your soul quite like sending an unfinished email and then having to use the mostly worthless recall feature which only make it worse because now they have proof of your embarrassment. Type your message first, then add the email addresses. Future You will be grateful.
That’s the brain dump for this week. Anything resonate? Any other weird blackout effects I should be worried about? And seriously, get a bidet! Your 🍑, 🚽, and🌲🌲 will thank you.
